The property that belonged to the Burlamacchi family, nobles of Lucca, has always had a purely agricultural function that has seen more extensions starting from the eighteenth century (about 1736) and then its function as a summer monastery by the Foundress of the order of the Ministers of sick of San Camillo.
The Foundress Maria Domenica Brun Barbantini bought the property in 1838 and transformed it into a convent in order to allow the sisters to come in turn in the moments of pause to regenerate themselves from the fatigue of the care of the sick and infirm and continued to maintain the farms and strengthen agricultural production above all of oil and wine.
In 1868 by his will it was buried in the chapel of the villa where it remained until 1898 when the congregation decided to move the body and put the entire property on sale due to the industrial revolution in progress which caused the value of agricultural crops to collapse and he forced to ask the Bishop of Lucca Mons. Giovanni Volpi for help to speed up the situation.
The Bishop proposed the property to his brother Paolo Volpi, a large landowner, to make it a family summer residence and so it was sold and refurbished and was called Villa Volpi.
During the summer the music composer Giacomo Puccini often went there as a great family friend, with Paolo Volpi (first president of the Green Cross of Lucca) he came to discuss issues related to public assistance as the great master was part of the board of directors , while with his wife, Mrs. Emma, music instructor and pianist, loved to discuss the musical grammar of which he was not very strict and for this reason she had become a collaborator of the master by continuously making changes and corrections to his scores.

Our olive oil
Our olives, all from the olive groves surrounding our castle, are harvested from plants about 150 years of age, all originating from traditional Tuscan varieties, such as Leccino, Frantoiano and Moraiolo. The Villa Volpi terroir is very favorable to olive growing, having mineral rich soils, in which the olive tree can sink its roots without difficulty. The terroir is furthermore situated at a decisive altitude for olive growing, thus increasing the complexity of our oils.
Our organic wine
While fully ripened and healthy grapes are essential to obtain an optimum product, the wine cellar also represents an equally delicate phase of the wine production. The grapes of each vineyard are harvested and processed separately. The fermentation, which is actioned by indigenous yeasts, takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature.
The scents of wine and fresh basil fill your table, the tastes of nature charm the palate, and the untouched Tuscan landscape unfolds before you.
The restaurant to our avant-garde take on beloved dishes, both tradition and modernity inform our gastronomy. It doesn't hurt that our hotel overlooks Lucca countryside's most coveted view: the panoramic vista is as stunning as the monumental walls of Lucca.

Excellect!
Stunning location, pool with stunning views, spacious rooms with very comfortable beds. All in the middle of the olive trees of the property where there are several paths illuminated at night.

Fantastic holiday!
The fantastic view, breakfast and dinner outdoors with a view! Even the panoramic and quiet swimming pool. The location is spectacular and the staff very friendly.
